How long does it take?
Our custom order build time is currently 14 days. Once the instrument build is complete, UPS shipping time is typically 3-5 business days.
What is the process?
Step 1: Use our custom order page to select the woods and details of your custom Sparrow Ukulele.
Step 2: Add your order to the cart and make the payment.
Step 3: We will contact you within 24 hours to verify the details of your custom ukulele.
What is a 2-piece body?
A 2-piece body has an exotic wood top glued to the body. This adds aesthetic interest and a bit of flare to the ukulele. The top is typically 1/4" thick and the body is 1.25".
A 1-piece body is built from a single piece of wood. There is no top wood.
Are other woods available?
We are very particular about the woods that are used on Sparrow Ukuleles. Everything we use is dried to proper moisture content and chosen for stability and aesthetic appeal. This ensures an instrument that is stable and will last a lifetime. For this reason we can only offer the array of woods that are reliably available and of suitable quality.
What is a Fretboard Radius?
We offer three fretboard options: Flat, 12" Radius, and 16" Radius.
A flat fretboard is "normal" for an ukulele. It has no curvature. This is how most ukuleles are made and is a perfectly good option.
A 12" radius has a slight curvature across it. A radius is very common on guitars. It allows the fretboard to match the natural curve of your hand and can make playing bar chords a bit easier. It also alleviates fatigue during long periods of playing.
A 16" radius is less curved (more flat) than the 12" radius. The larger the radius number, the flatter the fretboard. 16" is a nice balance between flat and the 12" radius. It is a good option for anyone that is more used to a flat fretboard but wants to try a radius option.
